The Salem Spirit Award recognizes those individuals or groups that are constantly promoting Salem and are frequently behind efforts to improve the city

Long time Capitol Woodcarvers member Everett Koontz was recognized for over 23 years of volunteer service with the Riverfront Carousel. Everett started with the Carousel when it first began and has been a regular and active participant ever since. Everett's long time membership and efforts with the Capitol Woodcarvers was also recognized during the award ceremony.
